The Department of International Studies, Political Science and History in collaboration with CAPS organised a session on academic writing for first year HEP on 28th August 2021.The session was attended by 89 students and the session was handled by Chitresh Shrivastva.
Academic writing has been defined as a formal style of writing, that reflects clarity of thoughts, is concise and has arguments that are supported by empirical evidence. The golden rules of academic writing are 6 in number, namely, formality, precision, objectivity, accuracy, organisation, and planning. The structure to efficient academic writing has been detailed as follows; indulging in extensive research, drafting the paper, revising it, editing and proofreading. It was also mentioned that when we face writer’s block, we should take some time off to rearrange our thoughts, and that we should always be confident, no matter the pressure. Focus on vocabulary and editing was also emphasized. All in all, the session was very productive and successfully helped us students to acquaint ourselves with academic writing.
